Good potted tree for patio?

I have a porch in downtown Seattle, Wa that I'm looking to decorate with an all-season tree. Does anyone have suggestions on a type of tree?

Ideally it'll flower or change color - but mostly I want it be able to keep it outdoors all-year round. The porch receives direct sun for 3-8 hour a day depending on the season.

i have Glowing Embers, Osakazuki, and Sango Kaku. They do ok in our Houston humid and hot summers. They are in 5 gallon pots under a East facing porch.

Dorothy, go visit Swanson's Nursery in the Crown Hill area. They have a good selection of Japanese maples and a knowledgeable staff to help you pick out one appropriate to a container culture - many JM's are highly suited to this.

They can also point out various other small trees or standardized shrubs (known as "patio trees") that could work for you also.
