JM Bloodgood Help

My JM bloodgood is not coming back this year. It has a small branch off the base that has leaves and that is it. I am wondering if it is a sucker branch. I didn't prune it last year.

Should I prune that branch? If so now or wait until blooming is over.

Thanks!

Raya, is there a graft union where you can tell if the branch is coming from below it?

Failing that you could wait until you can tell if the leaves on the branch are identical to bloodgod or at least to your liking.
