Bark Coming Loose on Maple

Hi! I found this forum today searching for help with my maple. IÃ¯Â¿Â½m not sure of the type. I want to say it is a Red Sunset Maple or a Crimson Maple. The leaves are red through the summer. I noticed last fall the bark starting to split near the ground. We had the tree in the ground two seasons. At first I didnÃ¯Â¿Â½t think it was going to make it, but the last few days it is budding on all limbs. Is this a serious issue or can I do something to save this tree? Attached are photos. I can provide more info or additional photos. I appreciate any help. I live in WV.

If the leaves are red all summer, it's probably a Crimson King Norway maple. I only see one photo but it doesn't look good. How high up does the crack go? If it were mine, I would clean away the loose bark and see how much tight bark is left, then see how fast it heals. It looks like there may be some callus forming already, but it's hard to tell.
