Japanese maple tree

I have a Japanese maple tree that is 1 year old. It has been doing good until now. What happened is, this spring, it got warm early and the leaves came out on the tree. Then, we had a frost coming so the night before the frost, I put a big plastic bag over the tree. I did this at 10:00pm. I took the bag off the next morning at 5:30. Evidently the bag didn't help or made it worse cause the frost still killed the leaves. The trunk of the tree still looks alive though. What can I do to help the tree? Is there still hope for it? Thanks

Nothing worse than frost damage. Im in scotland but have become very accustomed to this. Its not a total loss though. You will probably find as we get closer to summer some leaves will appear you will just miss out on spring growth.

This happened to my butterfly bush and a Katsura last year. The katsura stayed relatively bare all year round, Where as the Butterfly bush bounced back after a few weeks after the frost e.g early summer.

Most trees will leaf out more than once; some will do it until they get sustainable leaves.(Usually ones from northern climes that are accustomed to late frosts.) All you can do now is wait and see if it will leaf again.

Also, NEVER, EVER use plastic. Never. Ever.
