Can I save this Emperor I JM from a box store?

I was walking around HD and they had a "clearance bin" and they had this tree with 1/2 the soil missing and all the leaves curled up and dried out. We've had heavy winds, and it looks like it got knocked around.

She was only 5.00 and about 3 feet tall, so out of pity, I had to get her. By the time we got home, all hte leaves had fallen off. The branches are still alive, it seems. So, I put in fresh soil asap (didn't plant!), and watered her.

How can I help her survive - or since it's an emperor, I guess it's a him. ...

If you scrape the bark and it is still green and the small limbs are still flexible it my make it. If the limbs are getting stiff and snap off easily it dead.

Since the tree is stressed make sure you give it enough water BUT DON'T over water it which will rot the roots.
