Form of weeping JM

As you can tell from my question, I am a novice at gardening. That being said, I have a weeping Japanese Maple tree that looks like a 5 foot tall bush. I would like to prune it to give it a better shape. Something similar to the shape of bottman's tree posted in this thread (http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/load/maple/msg051823272432.html) would be awesome.

However, since all the branches are weeping I think it will end up having an umbrella shape. How do I prune the tree so that branches coming off the trunk do not weep as much so the tree has more upright or level limbs?
