How to identify Maple tree?

I do not know much about Japanese Maple or Maple. The knowledge of Maple tree for me was "the Flag of Canada".

I have seen many time Japanese Maple trees in so many places but I never knew the name. Since I have been a member of GW I am interested to grow any plants. So regularly I visit gardening section in supermarket.

I own a Japanese Maple tree Beni Maiko I bought it recently. Today I was cleaning my garden and I found a little tree the leaves looks like Maple but I am not sure so please identify this little tree.

Further more information, it survives the winter snow without any protection.

I never new its existence in my garden. It looks like suddenly appeared there.

I did not take care much this corner area. It is a place for some flowers like tulips. On the other hand I hate gardening before. Only after I am the member of GW I started to take care of my garden.
