die back on Orido Nishiki

I have an Orido Nishiki that has been in the ground for about 2 years now. It's about 3 feet tall. It experienced die back this winter and is now sprouting new shoots. Should I cut off the old wood to allow for a new leader to form? Does die back often occur in this cultivar in zone 6? I was kind of surprised I had some but maybe it's because it's newly planted? Thank in advance for your feedback.
