Maple ID and Saving Seedlings

My neighbor has a Red or Japanese maple on his property that is beautiful. It is currently green. On my property are a row of evergreens and between them in the mulch are lots of seedlings of his tree. I would like to encourage these to grow larger and to transplant them at some time. They get sun in the morning with shade in late afternoon. How do I protect these so they will grow larger? Is there any difference between the red seedlings and the green seedlings? Should I pot them and if so what should I put in the pot. Or should I leave them there and if so do they need fertilizer? Also, I have posted pictures of a tree and a shrub that if anyone could identify I would appreciate so I could purchase ones like these. Thanks, Steve {{gwi:1039080}}
