Sugar Maple pruning disaster.

Help!! Yesterday (5/4/14) my truck driver husband turned gardener over pruned our sugar maple tree.... now it has no leaves and looks like a tall "Y" sticking up from the ground. Is there hope for it? .. btw we live in south GA.
I am new to this website. Thanks in advance for replies.

Wait and see if it sends out new leaves and twigs.

If not, the man owes you a new tree, and he needs to read some gardening books on pruning.

If all the bark is the mature bark, then very likely not. Saw something similar done a few year ago to a mature SM...... the lifeless trunk is still hanging over the house. Sorry to have to give you bad news.
