Damage to Japanese Maple

I have goats and they managed to eat a section of the bark off of our Japanese maple. I don't know much about these trees, and wanted to see if there was anything I can do to ensure that the tree is able to come back from this. It's a young tree that my husband just purchased and planted last year. Any information or advice on what to do for the tree would be appreciated.

I've had two dwarf maples,, one green and one red in the front of my home for twelve years. the branches were perfectly since they were small. The winter of 2014 was brutal along the east coast. This spring only some of the leaves at the very ends of some of the branches have returned, but all of the branches survived even without leaves. They tree is barren. Will it regenerate next season? Help!!!
