| I am moving and want to take as many small japanese maples (up to 3ft tall) as I can to my new home in zone 5b. What are the odds for survival moving them in May? Thanks DW |

| If you can get large root balls, you should be ok. While reducing the top of dormant trees at transplant time is considered counter-productive, it may be necessary to reduce the top of the trees considerably to keep them from shedding branches they may not be able to support after transplant, and that you might feel are crucial to your vision for the plants.
