Whirligigs (How to prevent them from growing!)

We just moved into our new house last August. The man behind us has a HUGE maple tree in his backyard.

Is there ANY way to easily prevent the seeds from sprouting all over our yard next Spring, other than raking 3 times a day? It's been a nightmare this year. They are sprouting in EVERY crack and crevis and every flower pot and every flower bed and all throughout the yard.

I know the answer is probably "no" but I thought I'd ask. I've found out some pretty exciting and unique ideas from people on GW in my day.

I assume this is silver maple? You're just stuck with the tree unless you're willing to move again or somehow kill it and make it look like it died from natural cause...

Unfortunately, this is one of the problems associated with maples and some other trees. Tree seedlings are actually the worst weed problem in my yard. If you miss them, they can be hard to uproot once they get larger. In my yard, I have to contend with seedlings from red maples, winged elms, sweetgums, red buds and tulip trees. Red maples are the worst but elms are a close second.
