what to do about damage to Japanese maple

Last week, I had a tree service remove some trees, in the process a major limb was broken off of my Japanese maple. Is it possible for it to survive? It's a 15+ yr. old tree with 9.5" diameter trunk. Should I ask the tree service to replace it or reimburse me for damages? If so, how much is a reasonable request. He is willing to work with me and has accepted responsiblity for the damage done to the JM.
