staking a young Shirazz JM - or not?

I just bought a beautiful 1-gallon Shirazz yesterday that is staked to about 2 feet, with another 10 inch or so unstaked and starting to bend. I'm going to keep this in a container so I don't want it to get too tall, but on the other hand, the straight (lower) part of the trunk has lots of tiny branches starting, so I'm hoping the tree will fill out sideways in a balanced way. (It's going to be on a wheeled dolly so that I can move it around our paved patio easily.) When I move it into its first new home (container), should I fasten it to a longer stake to straighten the top part of the trunk, or should I leave it alone and expect it to start weeping at this point? The leader has already been cut. Thank you.
