HELP! japanese maple leave wilting/shriveling

i have a japanese maple called beni hime. it started out great until recently. the leaves are/look wilted and shriveled but not dry. the leaves are supposed to be a pink amberish color but now it is green.

we added a half inch layer of compost at the beginning of spring, which the beni hime reacted positively to. on a recent watering, the can was filled with water that was used earlier to water the other plants with organic liquid seaweed and fish fertilizer. i don't think that residue fertilizer caused this wilt/shrivel of the leaves.

prior to the leaves wilting/shriveling, we had a day where it was rainy and very windy followed with a drop in temperature a couple of days later. it didn't drop to freezing but there was a warning of frost.

does anyone have experience or can explain what is happening to our beni hime?

i also want to note that we have other types of japanese maples trees and they are fine.
