Should I acclimate my JM?

I just bought a Crimson Queen or Tamukeyama (it had both tags) from Lowes. It's in a 6.5-gal container and is about 2.5 feet tall. I think it's a Tamukeyama since they also had ones that were labeled Crimson Queen and were 1/2 the price.

I left it outside on the deck today from afternoon on. It was a partly cloudy day, about 65 degrees. It got windy as the day went on, and since I was out, I didn't get the chance to bring it in until this evening. Now the leaves look shriveled up!

Is it a good idea to acclimate it before I plant it? If so, for how long? Should I wait until fall to plant it? It's going into a raised bed with no shade or shelter from wind... I know, I'm pretty crazy, but I've seen similar JMs here that are thriving in full sun (OK, leaf scorch, but they still look beautiful other times). It gets windy here in spring and fall.

TIA!

Katie
