Looks like acer rubrum to me...but I haven't the slightest idea as to which cultivar it is if any.

Looks like an Amur Maple type to me. Small leaves. Flowers are probably getting ready to bloom soon. Is it a shrubby small tree?

noki, yes it is a shrubby small tree.

ah...yes I'd have to say probably not a. rubrum then. Those looked like fairly large leaves to me, but if it is a small shrubby tree then it isn't a red maple.

Leaves look and habit sounds typical for commonly planted Amur maple. This and a couple others on the market (including ssp. tataricum) are now considered subspecies of Tatarian maple, so just possibly this one is actually one of the other subspecies. But usually this would be an Amur maple.
