Pot a JM?

Carole Westgaard

The only place I can plant a JM is where there are 'utilities'. So, I thought I might plant one in a Haddonstone pot and put it on the patio - the edge in front of where I wanted to sink it in the ground. The pot that I have is about 2/1/2 feet tall by 2 feet wide.

I'm desperate to have Tamukeyama. I have a Bloodgood in a protected corner by the front door - a corner that faces E/SE. It's seven years old and gorgeous and I'm in love with it. I would settle for Crimson Queen or King if I hear that Tamukeyama is harder to grow in my climate. But my only hope is a pot - would it be okay in a pot? Would I have to wrap it in batting to protect it in the winter (I assume so). Or what else would I need to do to keep it alive? I'm in Zone 5 - the NW burbs of Chicago - closer to Wisconsin. (I wish I were in the Pacific Northwest!)
