First (and maybe last?) post on here. While I thoroughly enjoy all nature has to offer I have to many darn hobbies. I do have this tree at my house that a few people have mentioned to me. Recently an acquaintance who works in the landscaping field told me he knows a fella ready to offer $25,000 for this tree. Is he blowing smoke?

Can anybody identify what this is? Is there really any value to it?

I think Japanese maple.

Yes, a red leaved weeping laceleaf maple, Acer palmatum var. dissectum, specific cultivar unknown. There are dozens of different ones. And yes, he is blowing smoke :-)) $250, maybe as much as double that, but no way close to $25,000.

There are thousands of these in landscapes all over where I live, some much larger and more impressive than this. If they were worth that much, folks would be digging them up left and right and selling them!! My nursery had a mature 'Crimson Queen' for sale about 6' tall and with a 10' spread and that was only tagged at $1800.
