Should/Can I Plant a JM here?

Hello.. I recently acquired a rather large landscaping job involving a rather lucrative client. I'll go ahead and state that I know very little about landscaping, and even less so about JM's; but hey, the internet makes professionals out of all of us right? Fake it till you make it and all that? Anyway the customer has a concrete "patio" with a small diamond cut away that she wishes to plant "some sort of purpleish" maple tree in (which I think is a very cool idea in relation to the rest of the yard, pool, hot tob, etc etc. It would make her happy and I want to do it for her if it is feasible.) My problem, and hence the crux of my question, revolves around the fact that the diamond as it currently sits holds water. A fair bit for rather longer than I think a JM is willing to put up with. How should I prepare this hole to suit the plants needs? Should I dig it out deep and put rocks and sand in the bottom to allow the water to drain off the trees roots and so forth? Should I just tell her it's a bad idea, find something different? Pictures of the offending area can be viewed at the following addresses. Any and all help, knowledge, and advice would be greatly appreciated in this area. Thanks friends!
