My only advise is "Good Luck" ... I have said this before and I am again I don't think that tree is good for zone 5 or the upper reaches of zone 6.But it also does not generally do well in hot humid areas either..It may have once been a good tree and may be in certain areas or certain "strains" but what is offered today from mondo grafting or poor grafting techniques or just plain mass production is pure crud.. You got lucky with one you might again... If you read the varias comments in this forum concerning this "tree" I think you will find i am far from alone in my opinion... Only a very small minority in optimum JM growing areas have luck with it...But as i said maybe you will be in that minority . I can't offer ya any good advise on making it a successful venture ..It will either grow or it won't and it may grow for a couple of years or Kaput next spring..but most likely even if it does it likely won't be much to look at.with severe winter dieback and summer leaf scorch and denuding. I hope I am wrong but I tell folks all the tiime with the literally hundreds of beautiful Jm's out there... many hardy as well as "area" adaptable why put alot of effort into this one ... protect it water as needed and keep your fingers crossed ...david

My Sango Kaku was the first to go in the April freeze. A truly unpredictable tree that was twiggy and sometimes put on uncontrollable growth for no reason. I had it planted in a protected area 8 feet from the house with 4 hours sun.

I have about 10 Acer palms and the Sango Kaku in my opinion is a bust. A good Silver Maple companion.
