| I have 4 Red Sunset Maples in my back yard, three are about six years old and the fifth tree is just 3 years old. I went on vacation last week and returned 10 days later and the young one looks very sick (rest are just fine). The young one has drooping leaves, yellowing, and is beginning to drop leaves... any advice???
thank you for any help available, Al in Seattle |

| If it helps, looking at the tree closer, it seems like the damage started at the top of the tree and is progessing down quickly , now almost the whole tree is showing these signs, tree looked normal just couple days ago... I see no cause or abnormalty on the tree leaves or trunk such as insect damage,,, Al |

| Maples are prone to dieback diseases, it sounds like this one has become afflicted. Try King County Cooperative Extension for help with diagnosis. Otherwise, time of year would suggest drought injury - red maples are moisture-loving, many plantings flagging and growing slowly in Seattle's dry summers. |
