Inaba Shidare Staking Question

Greetings! I need some advice from all of you staking experts out there. First off, I friend gave me this tree and from all of my searches I do believe this is an Inaba Shidare. First off, is that truly what I have here?
Second, whatever this is, it is clearly a weeping form. So it is currently about 2 feet tall, and my question is: Should I put a longer stake in the pot and train one of the young branches so that it will grow taller, or will it grow upward somewhat on its own? I would like it to get a little taller than 2 feet -- may 5?
Here are some pics:

Any further advice is much appreciated....
thanks,
Tom
