Odd new offshoots on my tree

I just noticed some irregular looking offshoots on my tree. Is this a "bad" thing? I did pot up the plant probably about 3 months ago, and at the time added some 1+ year old compost. I know sometimes compost can trigger growth spurts...maybe that did it?

Yippee, If they originate below the graft union snip them off close to the trunk as possible, If they originate above the graft union let them grow out. A little variation in color, and or leaf shape during a growth spurt in a young tree like that is common and will grow out of it on the next leaf push.

If you're asking about the Japanese maple differently colored new growth is common with these. Some grafted named varieties vary much in how different flushes of growth appear at different times, including leaf size and lobing.

yes, I was specifically referring to the different color and overall shape of the offshoot. Good to know it's normal.
