distance between Sango Kaku

I have 3 Sangu Kaku, each 5-6 feet tall. I'd like to enhance the privacy of my yard by using them as a screen. How far apart would it be prudent to plant them?

If I wanted complete privacy today, they'd be 3 feet apart. If I wanted privacy in 20 years, they'd be 15 feet apart. How fast do Sangu Kaku grow wide?

Do they get very leggy, which would defeat the whole purpose?

They'd be under a very tall pine, extending the privacy provided by its trunk and tangent to it. Mostly high shade in the summer. Improved bed on clay subsoil. Dry.

The upright growth should be signifcantly more than that of the lateral growth. If I were using them for this, I would place them closer to 10 ft apart. It is unlikely that they will grow together near the ground as the habit is usually quite vase shaped. Therefore I would plant some type of evergreen shrub between them to fill that void.

I don't know that I would call there growth very leggy. If anything, I would call them twiggy. There are generally many small branches packed closely together all the way up. They usually do form a fairly dense mass of branches, and should make a descent screen.
