Those are some pretty decent gashes but by no means fatal injuries :-) And there is no need to treat or seal the wounds - it is not advised and the tree will callous them over itself. And I'd not be concerned about the bit of foliage color showing as well. It is most likely associated with an expected amount of transplant shock from planting during the middle of the growing season and during warmer weather. Just make sure the tree gets adequate watering during its first couple of seasons in the ground. The exposure siting sounds pretty much ideal otherwise.

I disagree in theory with 99% of the tree authorities on dressing wounds.

Before I go into my typical abstract rant I will say if it were mine I'd probably spray up to the recommended maximum with whatever insecticide you feel is most "tree safe". Those are open wounds inviting in all the tree sugar loving insects of the world.

My abstract rant says animals despite millions of years of evolution survive longer with bandages over open wounds. So would trees if we knew what to bandage them with. Unfortunately horticultural medical science is in its infancy. Something akin to human medical science 300 years ago. We just don't know what magic material or chemical to treat them wounds with to keep the cambium moisture in and decay/bugs out.

There, makes me feel better to say it lol. I think your tree will recover as well. Just keep an eye out for opportunistic insects.
