Acer palmatum scolopendrifolium - in container?

I saw one of these in a nursery today and would love to get it for our patio garden, but it would have to be planted in a container. The site gets filtered sun, and in spring and summer, some direct morning sun.

Would this tree stay small enough to stay in a large container in this site?

What are the spring and fall colors like? Right now the leaves are a beautiful bright green, and the shape of this particular tree is just gorgeous for up-close viewing.

I'm so tempted to buy it (as my early birthday present?!) but I'm afrid it might get too large for a container and a roofed patio. (The patio is open on two sides and the roof is made of semi-clear fiberglass, so it does get light and air.)

Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!
