Since no one else has answered you I will "attempt" to . The Scolopendrifolium is a highly underated tree... it's a linearlobum and is nice all season long from spring to summer to fall and can take full sun. It is VERY hardy for most extreme and borderline areas. It also grows pretty fast and can get to be a large tree ...it seems to grow more upward than outward to me .
That being said although not an ideal container tree I think it would do fine for you for many years ..and seems to have a form that should be easy to trim to keep it a bit smaller ...and remember in a container it will be smaller anyway and not achieve as much total growth as field grown ( groth figures given on varias sites are for "planted out" not containerized). Others may have differnt opinions but that is mine ...but be appraised I am NOT an expert container grower... and growing JM's successfully in containers is not just like plopping a gerainium in a pot... it takes some babying with proper soil , nutients, and watering... My Scolopendrifolium is also NOT in a container, but probably planted in the toughest location in my yard, a western corner, which gets little sun (thanks to mature trees at the park behind us) & little water ( I finally ran a soaker hose out there, but it still gets watered sporadically). Despite these drawbacks, it's one of my loveliest maples-it must thrive on adversity! I would definitely give it a try in a container, I love mine, it's out by the compost pile & sometimes, I think I should have given it a better location, but I love to see it when I go out to dump clippings or poke the pile...
