You can pick them up on ebay they are sold by the group ( 10-20 seeds) and sumetimes amusingly by the ounce like drugs ( I assume in little baggies ;>) ). they are over priced IMHO but if you want to play a bit and have years to grow a tree go for it ..david

If I may I'd like to remind that japanese maple seeds are like a box of chocolates: you never know what you're gonna get. So just because the seeds come from a red variety or a laceleaf variety does not mean that the seedlings will be the same or even similar to that of the parent. There is a higher chance that they will be similar compared to seeds of a normal green japananese maple, but no guarantee.

Go to your local nursery and ask them if you can harvest seeds from their trees when the tips start to brown. I have never had one say no.
