If it survives the shock of having all its roots exposed like that it should be OK. I would definitely keep in a cool, shady spot for a while. I always repot all my new trees and then keep them in an air-conditioned garden shed for 3 days (bright window - no direct sun). Then I move them out to a holding area that gets 2-4 hours of sun a day and is on automatic sprinklers every 48 hours. After a couple of weeks there, its OK to plant them out in the yard.

So far the tree is looking pretty good in the spot under the towering sunflowers. The soil tends to dry out very fast in the pot, so I give it a drink nearly daily. Thanks K4 for the procedure that you use with preparing your trees. I don't have the facilities unfortunately. I do want to plant it instead of trying to get it to be dormant and sticking in my garage all winter. I guess I will have to continue to keep an eye on it and make sure it stays semi-shaded and continue to prevent the soil from going dry.

You might consider getting your tree out of that black pot and into a light colored one. A black pot acts like an oven in the sun...
