Dead Silver leaf maple root system deteriation on slab foundation

We have a huge silver leaf maple tree we would like to cut down since the trunk is growing over our patio, it's roots are cracking the patio and it is only about 8 ft. from our slab home. If we cut down this tree will there be significant root system deteriation which could effect our slab foundation?
