Hardy maple seed

Hello,

Im an amateur "arborist" from Sweden that found this interesting page on the net. I live in a part of Sweden with a harsh climate similar to US zone 3-4. Im testing to plant hardy continental trees from Europe, North America and Asia.

In Sweden most North American trees in the nurseries are from southern proveniences and therefore not the best material for my garden. I wounded if someone can help me to collect seeds from Acer Saccharum, Acer rubrum, Acer Saccharinium, Acer negundo and burr Oak from a north provenience like northern Minnesota, or if you know a good nursery that sell tree seeds from these areas I would be very grateful for help with an address. I can also collect some hardy seeds from Scandinavia to exchange if someone is interested.

Hello Swede, welcome to Gardenweb. Your English is very good!

In the US we have all sorts of rules regarding which plants can be mailed to which areas with or without fumigating or treatments for this or that. I am not from the zones you want but the thought of being arrested for international seed shipping scares me none the less. Some concerns are not doubt legitimate as the US seems to catch bugs from China all the time.

If no one has volunteered to send seeds to you perhaps Schumacher seeds can. They helped me with getting viable Metasequoia seeds a few years back. I noticed they have a currency converter on their site so I assume they ship across the world.

Good luck over there and do not be shy about posting pictures of what you have going on! I imagine your climate is similar to our state of Alaska which I loved visiting.
