Worried about red maple tree

Got a 2" maple tree. Planted it, as you can see it had leaves. Keep it damp, planted in August, very hot. Gets full Sun. Will send follow up, all leaves gone looks skimpy but not dead yet I don't think, it bends without breaking. Will it come back next year or is it a goner?
