Early browning - What gives

I don't know much bout trees, but August 1 seems a bit too early for this type of browning. Drought stress? Or do we have bigger issues.

Did put some water on it today. Let go for the night. It has been abnormally hot and we are below moisture for the year as well. Normally don't have to water here.

Thanks in advance, Kent.

Here is a link that might be useful: The tree in question

The link didn't work. If I'm not mistaken, picasaweb doesn't let you link to photos by pasting the address shown in your url bar. It may work for you if you're signed in but others can't see it.

To answer the question, need to know more about the tree. When was it planted? Did anything happen to it recently? Fertilizer or weed treatments, digging under it?

Early fall color in woodies is often due to a water shortage.
