I believe the name to be Calis Corner Broom. I only have small ones but it appears it could be a smei-dwarf. Nice color red colors. Second flush seem to be almost pink and fades away to red.

You have obtained a great tree! It is actually named 'Carlis Corner Broom' and is definately a dwarf. It tolerates sun well and holds it's deep red color all summer. Growth is similar to Shainia but a little more open.

Thanks for the clarification on Carlis Corner Broom. Too many times names are printed on labels and somehow the name is distorted and deciphering the name becomes a real challange and down the road the name changes.

Hi - the plant orginated as a witch's broom on a reasonably mature ( 16' x 16' with at least 6" caliper)upright dark red foliage palmatum in Carl's Corner, a neighborhood or more precisely an intersection with a few homes and stores in the Bridgeton, NJ area, Zone 6. This is New Jersey's nursery capital, home to hundreds of growers as well as farmers. The "broom" was cut numerous times by many grafters and no longer exists although it was probably a 3' wide oval of very dense foliage when last alive. While the neighborhhod is called Carl's Corner, it sometimes appears on maps as Carlis or even Karlis Corner. Dunno the precise name of the cultivar, but that is the history of it as best I can recall. Since this area is visted by nursery buyers from around the Mid Atlantic and New England area, the plant may have been named and "introduced" several times. I first encountered the plant about 12 years ago, although it had been around for years before. If I recall, the foliage was a typical red palmate type (although smaller as you would expect) and turned the usual muddy brown in the humid South Jersey summers. No, I did not take cuttings or graft the plant. Best wishes all.

Thanks a bunch for the history on this plant. The person I recieved the plant from felt "Carl's Corner Broom" was the proper name, but said was also listed as "Calis Corner Broom"...they are one and the same was his comment.
