Almost certainly some cultivar of A. palmatum, Japanese maple. Might also be an A. japonicum (Fullmoon Maple, or also sometimes called Japanese Maple).

Definitely some sort of A. palmatum, not a japonicum (leaf shape is very different).

As to what type exactly, impossible to tell from the pics - there are hundreds of registered cultivars and many will produce a similar appearance to yours. Did you plant the tree? Does it have an obvious graft? Only a handfull of JM's will remain naturally at 6' or less and since yours is unknown, it is highly likely it will want to get much larger than that. I'd never recommend pruning a JM to maintain a significantly reduced size - it spoils both appearance and growth habit. You may want to consider moving it to a location where it can be allowed to develop to its full potential.

I have a lot of un-named seedling Acer palmatums with red new growth. Unless it came grafted with a name tag you will never know for sure. The possibilities are endless. It's a nice one. Enjoy it.
