Does anyone know a good website where I can buy Jap Maple seedlings? I would like to try and grow some next year (some of the more common ones like Bloodgood, Coral Bark and Laceleaf). I don't think mine will produce seeds. I would prefer to get some that are slightly established like 2 or 3 inches tall. I hope they will only be a few bucks per seedling (not $20 or $30!). Anyone seen or bought from a good website? Thanks.

Bill - The Bloodgood, Coral Bark and Laceleaf are normally grafted. The ones grown form cuttings normally don't have a good root system and are generally short lived. If you are interested in Acer Palmatum Atro-purpure which are grown from seed, I have a source for some 18 - 24" plugs. They have to be bought in bulk so if you email me privately, I might be able to get you some and split the purchase. If you want new grafts, I have source for them also, but I have to tell you that they often don't survive the shipping very well when they are brand new grafts. That is why it usually makes sense to buy an older more established tree. My souce for the established trees only sells retail. By the way what zone are you located in?

It's not a whole lot cheaper than $20, but World Plants sells J.M.s $15 for a grafted tree - sizes vary 6"-18" depending on cultivar. I got 6 beautiful, healthy trees last spring & am extremely pleased with their growth this year. If you copy & paste this link, they show you what to expect to receive in photos: http://www.worldplants.com/treesize.htm
