Is this scale on my Japanese maple?

Hi, I have a 10 year old weeping lace leaf Japanese maple. I noticed leaves are browning and upon further inspection I noticed the white, waxy puffy things on the branches. I've researched and don't think it's cottony scale. It's waxy with red "bleeding" inside when smashed. Any help?

Just googled...Wax Scale could it be?...only know what I've just read on web about this sorry :)

Yep, that's scale. Maples are subject to various types of scale and most will respond to the same type of treatment. Just do some research on hardwood scales in general and follow that advice. It helps if you can physically remove as much as you can see and shouldn't be too overwhelming a task on a weeping laceleaf.......
