Was this purchased from a nursery? Purchasing unnamed plants is a bit of a pig in poke........you are never sure of what you are getting.

The tree looks like a coral bark maple (Acer palmatum 'Sango Kaku') but unless it is obviously grafted and tagged, that is just an assumption. There are multiple named cultivars that resemble the traditional coral bark and if not grafted, could just as easily be a seed grown JM, which can resemble any form of these trees.

IOW, with very few exceptions, you cannot 100% accurately ID any Japanese maple just based on appearance.
