soil too muddy for JM?

I planted a 7 ft JM "Bloodgood" last week, and it seems the top soil is staying rather muddy. I used 1/2 acid mix (recommended by the nursery) and half native soil. I know that soil is supposed to be well draining. Should I rmove the top soil and mix it with more amendment? The tree doesn't seem to be suffering, but I don't want to hurt it! It's my first JM. Thanks!
