Unusual Japanese Maple

| Does anyone know what type of Japanese maple has bright, flaming red leaves in the summer which first turn golden bronze and then red in fall? The tree does not weep but has wide, upward growing branches. We have not seen any green leaves on the tree since we noticed it this summer. The tree's owner bought it several years ago, possibly at Home Depot, but does not know its name. My mother and father have enjoyed the tree so much on their way to my father's chemo treatments each week that they would like to purchase one for their yard. Thanks! |

| Hard to say -- a lot of JM's will have this coloring pattern. In warmer, more southerly locations like NC, 'Bloodgood' is known to produce this type of coloring - starts out an intense reddish purple, fades to greenish bronze with summer heat and sun, then turns scarlet red in fall. And it is a very common selection and can typically be found at places like Home Depot. |
