Where did you get Mexican Sugar maple? SFA plant sale? I collected seeds off SFA's Mexican sugar maple and managed to grew one. Unfortunately, I ran out of room to plant it so I may give to a neighbor where I can see it grow.

My house is surrounded by Shantung maples like Fire Dragon, Skinny Dragon, Blaine's Dragon, Golden Dragon and a couple regular ones. I just planted Seriyu Japanese Maple. Paperbark maple too. I will gradually add more Japanese maples as Shantung maples get bigger and provide some shade.

I'm also going to plant different kinds of Osmanthus Fragran aka Sweet Olives around the backyard to sit in the lounge chair and just enjoy the smell wafting all over the place one day. Their fragrance is so good.

Hey Lou, I got it from Keith at Metro Maples. He knew I really wanted a regular Sugar Maple, having just moved back from PA 2 years ago.

He said they wouldn't do well in Austin and offered me the Mexican Mountain Sugar.

It's probably the one I'm the most excited about :)

Keith made a little joke and said Austin was close enough to Mexico for it to grow well :p

Cool. If you have space, there's another sugar maple which is native to Texas called Bigtooth maple that is confined to small area in central Texas called Lost Forest Maple. Not sure if you knew about it or not. You can get one at Love Creek Nursery in Medina, Texas.
