Rain barrel question

| I've been looking for affordable barrels to use as rain barrels. I found several for $15, but they formerly held Formula 409. The guy says that we could pressure wash them and they'd be okay. But I am not sure that would get all of the chemical out, and we don't want to be ingesting 409! Anyone know if pressure washing them would be okay? |

I recently bought a 60 gallon drum that was used for shipping foods from Europe to the U.S. They're 60 gallon and cost $25. I bought one for composting and might snag another for a rain barrel. I would be worried if I were watering my veggies with 409-polluted water :-/ Good luck! Brian |

| Thanks. I ending up not getting those barrels. He also had some that had contained canola cooking oil, for the same price, so we bought six of them. They're steel drums, 50 gallons I believe. We have a low-lying area that holds about 2000 gallons of water after a good rain, so we're going to attempt to "harvest" this water with a pump and connecting the barrels for watering our garden this summer. |
