Trouble with baby's breath seedlings

So, I'd like to grow some baby's breath (annual) throughout the summer for filler for my market flower bunches, but I can't keep the seedlings alive. They germinated on the heat mat, but are quickly shriveling up. They are not too dry or too wet, this is not damping off.

The one possible factor is the temp range in our house. We go down to 55 F at night, and it can get pretty hot in the blakc pots by the window during the day. Could it be the temperature swing, or maybe just getting too hot? I had the same problem last year and I'd like to figure out what's going on.
