We have the same issue. We are lucky enough not to need that land at this time. Can you dig the creek deeper so that it can hold the runoff better? Our build up the banks? In our creek there are several wild plants and trees, and some of our wild black raspberries survive near that area, but they are definitely not the TAME type.

There is a large creek flowing thru the middle of our land, and wild blackberries and dewberries abound there. That's why I chose the lowest section of our tillable ground for the blackberries. We've had 3 record flood years in a row, and they're doing fantastic. All literature says to avoid low lying areas, however. I have built up the beds somewhat and would definitely recommend that. I also installed culverts within the beds to help the area drain better. Some friends have their berries in an area identical to yours, and they thrive. They even take advantage of the creek to water during dry times by constructing a low dam (weir).

I would not plant strawberries there. Don't even think of raspberries there either; they really can't take wet feet.
