Irrigation systems

I'm in the planning stages of a 2 acre market garden. I'm looking for the most efficient, cost-effective method of irrigating those 2 acres that I can find. I garden organically and intensively. Drip irrigation seems like the least wasteful method I have researched so far, but it seems like a lot of labor to set it up & maintain. Anyone have any good innovative ideas?

Hey Beth, first off I gotta say, I hate irrigation. That said I have to admit that the dread of doing it is the worst part, I would so much rather be doing just about anything else! It is really rather easy to set up and maintain a drip system, it takes a few hours but it saves you tons of time in the long run. I use soaker hoses in the berry fields and T-Tape for the row crops. Every farmer I know in the area uses T-tape. Check out the Drip works web site or do a search for T-Tape.

t-tape is pretty easy to work with. i bought some years ago and have been rolling it up at the end of the season on hose reels and repairing it as needed with coupling fittings.
the big boys just throw it away every year with their plastic mulch.

Hi beth I am from NC too > we haven't invested in irrigation yet but when we do we will probably go with Berry hill In southern VA. They have a good reutation with NC Farmers.
What part of the state are you from??
