Growing herbs for market...

| How do you estimate how much to plant for fresh herb sales? Is there yield info available somewhere, like, how much per 100', as there is for veggies?
This is our first year growing around 15 different basic herbs -- previously, we had just a couple hundred feet of basil. This year's production plan for veggies is 50-150 market units (a pound, a bunch, etc) weekly depending on the crop (we grow 20+ types of vegetables on 2.5 acres). I'm trying to plan for herbs on this scale... |

| I purchased a book, GROWING AND SELLING FRESH-CUT HERBS, Second Edition, by Sandie Shores, who is an experienced commercial grower, and it answers most of the questions a newbie might have. It's published by Ball Publishing. Bob |

| Bob_Piper: Thanks for the tip! I checked it out at amazon.com, you can look at the table of contents and index online, but I couldn't tell from those whether it has the specific info I want. I'm looking for yield, like, approximately how much, in pounds or whatever, does 100' of basil produce, at recommended spacing. I have all the other growing info I need, I'm just trying to work out the actual planting quantities to start out with, which would be based on yield and how much I want to have available each week. |
