Now is the time for us Michigan growers to get our Growing lights in place. For a 6 week Tomato transplant I like to start by April 5, under the Florescent Lights, If the temp is low I put a chicken brooder lamp also too get good Germination .Please get these in the greenhouse by April 15 , This will allow a perfect 5-7 inch transplant by May 25. I use 36 count 1503 trays which give enough soil for proper development,As far as my Peppers I start in the same 36 count flats covered with plastic by my indoor heat Ducts and when I see germination I either move them under the Lights very fast or in the greenhouse which gives them optimal growing conditions,at nights I bring them back in to warm conditions. Yes It is a pain to keep moving them but in the end you have nice short ,stocky plants ,perfect for Sale or transplant. Mark

Timing is everything when starting plants early to prevent Leggyness.
