Black Woven Cloth Ground Cover/Mulch

I need to get serious this year on weed prevention or surrender to them. I will try approximately 1500 feet with a cloth mulch in addition to other plastic mulch. Need some help in methods and tools for cutting the holes in the cloth. Someone here somewhere was using cloth mulch to grow weed free onion plants. Since onion bulbs mainly grow on top of the soil surface how large or what size holes are put in the cloth. Does the onion bulb rest/sit on top of the cloth or on top of the soil in a larger hole. I plan on using cloth on some of my onions, peppers, and tomatoes. Allso, Nolt's Midwest Produce Supply sells a steel tomato trellis which is spaced 5' apart and covered with a Dupont row cover 82" x 500' long with ropes hemmed into the edges which hooks into the bottom hooks on the trellis/frame. Any experience with this? tonytiller
