selling herb transplants?

| I'm considering re-selling herb transplants at the spring market. The nursery that supplies me with our veggie transplants sells herbs for $1.25 for 2 1/2" pots and $2.50 for 4" pots. Can someone help me with the retail value for these? I'm just wondering if it would be worth it or not. My table won't be as full in April/May and am trying to find other things to fill it up....
I welcome any suggestions. Thanks so much! |

| In my area those prices are the retail price. Where are you located. |

| There seems to be a weird trend lately for people to sign up on these forums without any hint of where they live. Makes it harder to give them real help. I'm writing from western NY. A long ways from NYC. I sell perennial herbs at the market in 31/2" pots. Annual herbs are some in 31/2" pots and alot in 4 packs. At the market because there is a lot of competion we get 2.75 each per pack or pot, 4 for 10.00. At home in our nursery we get 3.25 each, 5 for 15.00. We buy in plugs, pot up and grow our own. Last year between the market and home we sold over 12,000. What you could sell wherever you are I have no idea. |

| In Northern VA we sell 2 1/2 inch herbs for $2.99, 4 1/2 inch for $5.99, 2 1/2 inch tomatoes for $1.50 (price increase soon though), 4 inch annuals for $3.99. We are competitive in price to HD on some things even (we have better quality of course). I have found that the wholesalers in the area sell plants for about half of what we can sell it for at the nursery. I had a similar experience as elrem2002 with markets being more competitive and people expecting lower prices. That was deal breaker for me, no more markets. |
